Apple App Store for iOS apps
In order to be able to place an iOS app in the Apple store, you need to have an Apple Developer Account. Creating this account consists of multiple steps which can take several days or even several weeks.
Before you can publish an app, you need to take the following steps:
- Create Apple ID
- Create Apple Developer Account
- Authorize Genkgo to upload an app
1. Create Apple ID
To be able to create an Apple Developer Account, you need to have an Apple ID. We recommend creating a separate account for your community instead of using a personal account. If you do not have an Apple ID for your community, you can create this here.
2. Create Apple Developer Account
Before you can create an Apple Developer Account, you need to have a DUNS. Therefore, you need to wait until you have your DUNS number before you can proceed with the following steps:
- Go to the Apple Developer website to take part in the developer program. At the bottom of the page, click on ‘Start Enrollment’. Login with your Apple ID.
- After logging in, you will have to fill out a form to take part in the program. Indicate which type of organization you represent. You will see the required conditions.
- Fill out the form and follow the Apple’s instructions.
- Depending on the organization type, it may take several days before the Apple Developer Account is approved.
- Depending on the organization type, you need to pay for the developer account. This will be around $100 per year which can only be paid by credit card. If your community does not have a credit card, you might consider getting a prepaid or disposable credit card. You can search these terms on Google to get more information. Of course, you can also request a normal credit card from your own bank.
Migrate the app?
If your community already has an app that is not linked to your Apple Developer Account, you need to migrate this app. This also applies to existing Genkgo apps that will have to be published under your own Apple Developer Account.
- Go to the Membership page in the Apple Developer portal and copy the team ID.
- Send the team ID and your Apple ID (the same as your Apple username) to the app developer (so for Genkgo apps, send this information to Genkgo).
- The app developer initites the migration of the app to your own Apple Developer Account.
3. Authorize Genkgo to upload an app
The app is created and ready. Now, you need to authorize Genkgo to upload a so-called build for your Apple account. You can authorize Genkgo in the App Store Connect.
- Log in to the App Store Connect.
- Click on ‘Users’ and ‘Access’ and then click on the plus sign to add a user. As first name enter ‘Genkgo’ and as last name enter ‘Developer’. Genkgo’s Apple account e-mail address is ‘apple@genkgo.nl’. The role is ‘App manager’. Choose the apps for which you want to authorize Genkgo. Genkgo also needs access to ‘Developer Resources’.
