Step 1: Enter the properties of the e-mail

When you compose an e-mail with Communication, you have to enter the properties of the e-mail before filling it with content. The properties include the sender information, the subject of the e-mail, the date and time on which the e-mail should be sent and the relevant subscription.

Enter the properties

  1. Under ‘Sender’, enter the name of your community. This is the name that will be visible in the inbox of beneficiaries when they receive the message.
  2. Then enter your e-mail address.
Tip: when you don’t want replies to the e-mail, you can use a no reply address (e.g. noreply@yourdomain.nl). The user will not be able to respond to the message this way.
  3. Under ‘Properties’, enter the subject of the message.
  4. Behind ‘Send on’, enter the time at which you want to send out the e-mail. This option is only relevant if you want to send the e-mail in the future and not directly.
  5. Choose the language of the e-mail. The language that is selected here by default can be changed in Settings → E-mail → General.
  6. Under ‘Delivery’, select the correct subscription. Only people subscribed to the chosen subscription will receive the e-mail. If you choose an opt-out subscription with no option to unsubscribe, you will be required to specify the reason as to why this message needs to be sent. As beneficiaries cannot unsubscribe from mailings like these, they will see this reason appear in the e-mail at the place where they would normally find a link to unsubscribe.
Important! Only use this kind of subscription for messages with high priority/urgency that apply to all members. This subscription is not suitable for commercial purposes. When this type of subscription is used too much, you risk users marking your e-mails as spam, causing future mailings (regardless of the subscription) to go straight to many users’ spam folder. The person who marked your e-mail as spam will never receive any e-mails from you again. This means that you will be able to reach less and less people.
  7. Click ‘next’ to go on to the next step.

You have finished Step 1. The e-mail will now be placed in the Drafts folder. You can still change the properties of the e-mail as long as you have not sent it.
