Create an API Key

There are a number of steps required before an existing Exact Online environment can be connected to Genkgo. The first step is creating an “App” or “API Key” in the Exact Online App Center. Below, you will find a step by step instruction of how to do this.

Step 1: Go to the App Center of Exact Online

Go to https://apps.exactonline.com/ and click on ‘Login’ > ’Inloggen Exact Online (NL)’.

Step 2: Manage Apps

You are now in the App center overview. You can see your username at the top of the screen, on the right side of the flag. Click on ‘APPS BEHEREN’.

Is the button ‘APPS BEHEREN’ unavailable?

Check if your user account has the rights to manage API keys. The right manage license can be given to your account by the main user within your organization.

You can edit the rights of users in Exact Online in your administration name > ‘stamgegevens’ > ‘gebruikers > ‘overzicht’. Here, select the user and click on ‘Rechten’ on the right side. You can now view and edit the rights of the user.

You can also make the connection with the account of the main user.

Step 3: Add New App part 1

The page will show the existing Apps (if any). To add a new app, click on the plus-sign in the square and then click on ‘Accepteer’ to accept the terms and conditions of Exact Online. You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Add New App part 2

To add the App, you need to enter a App name and a Callback URL. We recommend doing this as follows:

Check the information in Exact Online and click on ‘Bewaren’.

Step 5: Enter the App information

You will now see a screen with several fields that have been filled out automatically (Naam, Client ID, Client secret, Callback URL etc.).

In the field ‘Partner website’, enter: http://www.genkgo.nl.

You can ignore the other fields in this screen. Check the information and click on ‘Bewaren’. Do not leave the screen!

Step 6: Copy the information and send to Genkgo

Genkgo needs the following information to complete the connection:

  • Username and password of Exact Online
  • Content of the fields ‘Client ID’ and ‘Client secret’

Click on ‘App indienen’. You will be redirected to the home screen. If everything was done correctly, you will see the app appear in the overview:

Add API data to Genkgo Admin

You now need to enter the information from Exact Online into the Genkgo Admin. Go to the System Settings.

On the left side, you will find the element ‘Exact Online’. Click on this element.

You will see a new screen. Follow the steps below:

  1. Client ID – the Client ID from Exact Online between brackets. For example: {3nasds92mas024jdf9020}.
  2. Client Secret – Enter the Client secret from Exact Online.
  3. Click on ‘Save’.
  4. Click on ‘Connect Exact’ to establish the first connection.
  5. You will be redirected to the website of Exact. If you are not logged in, Exact will ask you to login. After logging in, click on ‘Toestaan’. The connection is now successful.
  6. Then the division number will be entered and you have to indicate which persons in which folders should be synchronized. To do this, go to ‘Settings’.
  7. Division – The division number of the administration. If there is only one administration, enter the number that is indicated in the Genkgo Admin.
  8. Synchronized folder or group – The folders or groups that should by synchronized. The field will give some automatic suggestions when you start typing.
