What kind of process can I expect for the publication of a website?

Roadmap: publication of the website when moving the domain name to Genkgo.

To publish a website on a main domain (e.g. www.yourcommunity.nl), these are the steps involved:

  1. Requesting the domain migration code (‘EPP token’) from the existing provider. Only you as owner of the domain can make this request. After obtaining the code, you need to send it to Genkgo (support@genkgo.nl). This code often has a limited validity. Additionally, chances are that you are dependent on others when making the request. Therefore, make sure to start this process as early as possible so that Genkgo obtains the code in due time: well ahead of the desirable publication date. Next to the code, it is good to check the following things with the previous provider:
    1. Are there any active subdomains (e.g. event.yourcommunity.nl)? If yes: Send a list of all active subdomains together with the migration code.
    2. Will the services of the previous provider remain active (temporarily) after the domain has been migrated? If the answer is ‘no’, this means that we cannot carry out the migration until the publication date. There is a greater risk at ‘down time’.
  2. Migration of the domain name to Genkgo. Genkgo will start the migration of the domain name. After a succesfull migration, the domain name willo refer to the services of the previous provider, so your old website will stay online while the domain name has been moved.
  3. Deciding on a publication date for the website. In consultation with Genkgo, a publication date will be determined. Publishing is possible from Monday to Thursday between 10h and 15h.
  4. Publishing the webiste. Genkgo will adjust the DNS settings of the domain so that the website becomes visible. After this, an SSL certificate will be activated. This certificate ensures that users can visit the website with a secured connection. From the moment of adjustment, it usually takes an hour before the website is available everywhere on the internet.
  5. After publishing the webite. This is the moment that you can send an announcement e-mail to all members using the Communication Application. We recommend preparing the e-mail beforehand so that it can be sent immediatly. After sending the announcement, you can send a password e-mail to all members.

More information

  • You you not want to migrate the domain name to Genkgo (although we do not recommend this), and thus keep the domain name in your own or external management? Then you yourself are responsible for the publication of your website on the domain. You also have to adjust the DNS settings of the domain so that the software of Genkgo can send e-mails on behalf of your community with an @yourcommunity.nl as sender. The steps you need to take for this ‘domain verification’ can be found in the system settings.
