Migrating e-mail
Genkgo offers the service to transfer existing e-mail accounts managed by another provider to the Genkgo server. This process will transfer all folders and messages available in e-mail account A to account B at Genkgo.
Requirements
Please take the following into account.
- The source server must be an IMAP server;
- You know the username and password of the address on the source server, or you have the ability to change them. Usually, the username is equal to the e-mail address.
- You know the server connection information of the e-mail address:
- Server address (e.g. mail.yourformerdomain.com);
- Server port (e.g. 143 or 993);
- You know how it is secured (Automatically, SSL/TLS or STARTTLS).
What is IMAP?
IMAP stands for ‘Internet Message Access Protocol’. This protocol offers the possibility to manage e-mail messages directly on the e-mail server. Today, most e-mail providers use IMAP. If you are not sure if this is the case for the e-mail of your organization, ask the previous hosting provider about this.
Add account for transfer
You are going to enter the e-mail addresses that you want to transfer to Genkgo into the Hosting application. The information described above has to be entered as well. Before you start the transfer of an account, the accounts must be added in Hosting –> E-mail.
- To transfer an account, click on 'Add';
- Enter the e-mail address you want to transfer. This must be an address created under E-mail.
- Then enter the server and login details of the source/old server.
- Server (e.g. mail.yourformerdomain.com);
- Username (e.g. account@yourformerdomain.com);
- Password;
- Port (e.g. 143 or 993);
- Security (Automatic, SSL/TLS or STARTTLS).
- Click on ‘save’.
The system will check whether the added account exists and will attempt to login to the source server with the details that you have provided. If it succeeds, the account transfer will be added to the list.
