Alias – a profile in several locations

In some cases, it may be necessary to place a contact or other object in several locations. Consider the example of someone who is a member of your community, but also works for a company that your community works with. You may not only want to add this person as a member of your community, but also as an employee of the company. In such cases, instead of making two identical profiles in different locations, you can make a reference and place a profile in multiple locations. If you edit the person’s information in one location, the information will automatically be adjusted in the other location as well because of the reference you made.

Creating an Alias

  1. In the Organization tree, go to the location of the object. Do not go to the profile of the object.
  2. On the left side of the name of the object is a check box. Check the box to select the object. You may also select multiple elements at once.
  3. The options in the toolbar now change into the actions that are possible for the selected object(s). Choose the option ‘Alias’.
  4. A new screen will now open, and you will see a copy of the Organization tree. Fold it out and select the location of where you want to place the alias.
  5. Click ‘Create alias’ to confirm.
  6. The system will now create the aliases one by one.

The alias is now created. You can find the alias(es) in the location you chose in step 4.

Edit an Alias

You cannot edit the profile of one specific alias. Editing an alias also causes the original profile to change.

Delete an alias

You can delete an alias in the same way as you delete any other object. However, the original object will not be deleted. In order to do that, you need to delete the original object.
